What is cmos?

What is cmos?

Complementary metal oxide semiconductor
Also specified as a RTC/NVRAM or CMOS RAM, CMOS is short for Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor. CMOS is an on-board semiconductor chip powered by a CMOS battery inside IBM compatible computers that stores information such as the system time and system settings for your computer. A CMOS is similar to the Apple Macintosh computer's PRAM.
CMOS is 'Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor'.

CMOS stores the information basic to boot up your computer before any other systems come online. This information is stored within BIOS (Basic Input Output Systems).

CMOS is constantly charged using a battery that keep the BIOS alive as well as the internal clock of your computer ticking even when you power rotten your system.
CMOS(Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor)

A part of the motherboard that maintain system variables in static RAM. It also supplies a real-time clock that keep track of the date, day and time. CMOS Setup is typically accessible by entering a specific sequence of keystrokes during the POST at system start-up

The CMOS memory holds the BIOS settings that you outline in the BIOS setup program. This memory is powered using a battery-operated so that the settings cannot be deleted at power down
